At Murrieta Dance Project we hire some of the most talented dancers in the business. With experience that is both vast and diversified, our instructors are at the top of their game.

Susan Barnett_Owner/Director

Susan is an accomplished teacher, choreographer and dancer whose energetic teaching style can be seen in both the Riverside and Orange County areas. She has trained with various teachers and choreographers such as, Sue Gilson, Currie Pederson, Mandy Moore and Malaya

Her love of dance has led her to perform and choreograph for many exciting venues including, L.A. Laker and L.A. Clippers Halftime shows, as well as Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise lines.

Susan continues to participate in ongoing master classes and continues to train at The Edge in L.A. and Jimmie DeFore Dance Center in Orange County.

In addition to her many years of professional dance training, she has 10 years of teaching experience. She has held the position of teacher and dance director at Temecula Valley and Chaparral High Schools in Temecula and has choreographed for many high school dance teams.

Her distinctive choreography has received numerous high point and top choreography awards at regional and national competitions. Susan's students have been recipients for many scholarship awards, cash prizes and have gone on to be represented by top agencies such as the Bobby Ball Talent Agency.

She has also judged dance competitions for many Dance Competitions throughtout the nation. Susan has a great enthusiasm and passion for dance and enjoys inspiring and sharing this love with all of her students.

Erin Babbs_Owner/Director

program4Erin has been dancing since the age of 3. After being awarded a high school scholarship for dance, Erin decided to go to college in hopes of pursuing her life long dream of sharing her knowledge with others. Erin Walker received her BA from San Diego State University.

Although writing has been one of Erin’s long time passions, she could not give up her enthusiasm and love for the art of dance.

She has studied with some of the most well-renowned dance instructors and professional schools throughout the United States. Erin has trained with Paul Koverman of San Diego City Ballet, Xavier Hicks, Defore Dance Center, the Edge and APA, better known as the Academy of Performing Arts.

Erin’s training has led her to dance professionally with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the Black Eyed Peas, MTV, and DJ AM, to name a few. In addition, Erin has modeled for Divine Eyewear, Juicy Couture and Shuz and has been a featured vocalist for Moonshine Records and One World Entertainment.

Erin has been teaching dance for the past 9 years. She has been named top choreographer in the discipline of Tap for the 2004-2006 dance seasons and Jazz for the past 5 dance seasons.

Her students have won top awards, scholarships and agent representation and have taken the United States by storm winning thousands of dollars in cash prizes!

Erin’s knowledge and love for dance has led her to travel the United States judging some of the nation’s top talent. She is proud and excited to share her love and knowledge of dance, art, and life with all of her students here at Murrieta Dance Project.

Katie McIver_Instructor

Katie McIver received her early training in Kentucky. Her studies of ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical and tap continued intensively with Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Nutmeg Ballet and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Katie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, receiving her BFA in Dance.

She worked professionally with Rae Ballard’s Thoughts In Motion and trained extensively at the Jose Limon Institute with Betty Jones and Risa Steinburg. She also danced as a full company member for Hannah Kahn Dance Company in Denver, CO. Katie presently serves as a National Director for Kids Artistic Revue and is the owner and co-director of the Fusion Dance Workshop Series, creating in-house workshops for studios across the country.

In addition to being named a finalist in the 2003 and 2007 International Leo’s Choreography Competition, she was also named a finalist in the professional division of the 2006 Palm Desert “Dance Under the Stars” choreography festival.

Katie has been teaching all genres of dance for 15 years to students of all ages and abilities across the nation. Her enthusiasm, technical eye, diverse performing background and unique teaching style help create an enjoyable, highly motivating, hard working classroom atmosphere. She is very excited to be joining the MDP staff.

   

Orialis Serrano _ Instructor

Orialis is from Puerto Rico and has been dancing since the age of seven. She has trained extensively in all genres of dance from ballet to hip hop, and through her training has earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from The Florida State University.

After receiving her degree, Miss Serrano joined the Denver based Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble in 2003.  With the company she toured nationally and was a featured soloist in works by Talley Beatty, Christopher Huggins, and Alvin Ailey.   After relocating to Los Angeles, Orialis expanded her dance career from concert work to commercial work.  There she performed in music videos, stage shows and various industrials.  She also had the privilege to work with Southern California dance companies including the Mark Goodman Tap company, Lula Washington Dance Theater and Liz Imperio's Instincts Live Media. 

Her extensive background has enabled her a teaching position with one of the top 50 dance studios in the nation.  She sets award winning choreography locally and around the US. She presently resides in  Southern California where she continues not only to train and perform as a professional dancer but also shares her love of dance with her students.
