Ballet/Pilates

BALLET

Beauty, flow and elegance are inherent in the elements of ballet. Ballet is the classical dance form that can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base or supplement to other dance forms. Classes focus on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet and legs and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. Traditional barre work, center work and combination's are included in all classes.

PILATES

A slow-paced class that includes both floor and standing stretches. Expand your movement range while gaining confidence, balance and improved body alignment. The Pilates Method helps to lengthen and strengthen muscles while building a uniformly developed body. Pilates focuses on core strength-abdominals, gluteals, inner thighs-and practices moving from the "inside out." It helps with posture, body alignment, breathing, control, balance, flow and strength. The mind works with the body to help realign movement patterns, and to work muscles properly and efficiently. Students gain a kinesthetic awareness of their own bodies so that they can integrate the ideas learned in class into their daily lives.

Combo Classes

Dance for preschool aged children is an active, fun and creative way to encourage physiological, emotional, and cognitive development in addition to promoting social skills and cooperative participation with a group. For the young child, movement is pre-verbal, and can be a valuable outlet for thoughts and emotions as a child develops and expands verbal skills. Dance is a joyful, kinetic experience that encourages skill building, focus, creative thought and an appreciation for one's self and the arts. The MDP Combo Class Program is designed to provide an enriched dance experience in a supportive and safe environment, and to ensure each young dancer is developing a love and appreciation for dance that lasts a lifetime.

Contemporary

This class combines an eclectic yet accessible mix of Modern, Lyrical and Jazz. Your instructor will guide you in exercises to develop posture, line, articulation and coordination with a strong focus on imagery and dynamics. Original choreography will assist the dancer in realizing the potential of these techniques in motion. This class is challenging but relaxed with an emphasis on expression and fun. Contemporary will inspire you to find your own style of motion and enable what dance is designed to support...your expression.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in Jazz. The movement vocabulary and range of motion used is endless and creative and draws on each student's personal expression. Classes may include improvisation and creative exercises. This hour focuses on teaching dancers about creative expression. Our teachers achieve this by instructing students to tell the story of a piece of music through their movements. We offer this class on the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels for all ages. MDP recommends this class be taken in conjunction with a Ballet and Jazz class.
